I tried an overnight sleeper bus Vietnam journey costing 250,000-600,000 VND (15-36 AUD), on routes like Hanoi-Hue or Ho Chi Minh City-Nha Trang in 6-12 hours.

This is the method I use most often when traveling long distances, such as Hanoi-Sapa, Da Nang-Hue, or Ho Chi Minh City-Nha Trang. You just need to access familiar websites such as 12GoAsia, VeXeRe, or redBus, then select:

• Departure point – destination point
• Departure date
• Desired departure time and bus company

The price of a sleeper bus ticket usually ranges from 300,000-700,000 VND (≈18-42 AUD), depending on the route and vehicle quality. After paying with an international card, you will receive an e-ticket sent via email. Just show it to the bus conductor or driver when boarding. No printing required.

#2. Book tickets through your hotel or hostel

If you are staying at a hotel or hostel, just ask the receptionist. They usually know where the bus goes, the pick-up point, and the departure time. Prices may be 20,000-50,000 VND higher (≈1-3 AUD) compared to ordering online, but in return, you don’t need to search or contact the bus company yourself.

#3. Buy tickets directly at the bus station

This method is suitable if you are already familiar with traveling in Vietnam. Tickets are usually slightly cheaper, but the drawbacks are:

• Tickets sell out easily, especially on weekends or during peak season.
• Asking at multiple counters can be time-consuming.
