Minh Mang Tomb Hue, located 12 km from Hue city, is the tomb of the second king of the Nguyen Dynasty. Famous for its majestic and harmonious architecture, surrounded by lakes, gardens, and hills, it is a significant historical site and a popular destination for history-loving tourists.
Minh Mang Tomb Hue Entrance Fee
During my recent trip to Hue, I had the opportunity to visit three famous tombs in Hue, namely Khai Dinh Tomb, Tu Duc Tomb, and Minh Mang Tomb. The experience I felt there was like never before so I had to document the three most famous tombs of the Nguyen Dynasty at 123dzovietnam.com.

From Pilgrimage Village Hue Hotel, about 5.5 km from Minh Mang Tomb Hue (you can book a room via Agoda or Booking), I started moving, and it only took about 15 minutes by car to get there. The first place I visited was the Hue Citadel. I bought a ticket to visit 4 places for 530,000 VND for adults; the attractions include Minh Mang Tomb, Khai Dinh Tomb, Tu Duc Tomb, and the entrance ticket to the Citadel. The ticket prices for the remaining tombs are in the table below; you can refer to them.
STT | Structure of Points and Tour Routes | Fee (VND/person/trip) (Applied uniformly for international and Vietnamese guests) |
1 | Hue Imperial City | 200.000 |
2 | Relic sites: Minh Mang Tomb; Tu Duc Tomb; Khai Dinh Tomb | 150.000 |
3 | Tomb of King Gia Long | 150.000 |
4 | Tomb of King Dong Khanh | 100.000 |

From the moment I arrived, I was impressed with Minh Mang Tomb, Hue because of its large, airy space, surrounded by a cool blue lake. Different from the ancient silence of many other relics, this place gives me a feeling of both majesty and peace.

Entering the Minh Mang Tomb, I immediately felt the quiet and majestic atmosphere of this place. The large campus with a lake, a garden, and ancient walls made me want to walk slowly to feel all the beauty here.

I walked around the constructions, along the lake shore, taking pictures and recording interesting details. It took me about 50 minutes to visit all the areas here. Special things at Minh Mang Tomb, Hue
When I arrived at Minh Mang Tomb Hue, I immediately realized that this place was completely different from other tombs in Hue. The space here is full of nature, with lots of trees, lakes, and stone-paved paths leading over small bridges across the water, like the scene of ancient kings.
I tried to follow the lake shore, going around the small paths instead of going straight from the main gate. This way helped me feel the tranquility of the landscape more clearly, and I had more beautiful photo angles than going the usual way.

Going deeper into the grounds, I found the most special thing was the actual tomb of King Minh Mang. It was located at the very back, protected by a stone wall and completely off-limits to visitors.

I could only see the stairs leading up to the burial mound from afar. According to the sign, this area is only open once a year on the king’s death anniversary. I could clearly feel the solemnity and mystery of this place. This solemnity and mystery made me both curious and respectful of the history and rituals here.

Experience visiting Minh Mang Tomb in Hue for international visitors
#1. How to get to Minh Mang Tomb from the city center
From Hue city center, it takes about 20-25 minutes to get to Minh Mang Tomb. The distance is about 12 km, quite easy to go because it is mainly a large road and there are fewer cars than in the city. I chose to go by taxi to save time; the price is about 150,000-200,000 VND one way. If you want to save money, you can call a car on the Grab app or rent a motorbike for about 120,000-150,000 VND/day, which is convenient for traveling to other tombs such as Tu Duc and Khai Dinh Tomb Hue.
What I learned is that if you want to visit many tombs in the same day, renting a motorbike or negotiating a package taxi will be more reasonable, both time-efficient and less worried about calling a car many times. The route is not too difficult; there are clear signs, just open Google Maps and you will be assured.
In addition, you can refer to the schedule of a 1-day Hue tour that combines a visit to the Imperial City, Thien Mu Pagoda, and three typical mausoleums: Minh Mang, Tu Duc, and Khai Dinh. I find this way of traveling quite convenient, especially for international tourists, because you do not need to worry about finding the way or arranging transportation.
#2. Choose a quiet time to visit, with few tourists
I arrived at the mausoleum at around 7 am, when the sun had just risen. The air was cool and pleasant, and the light was soft, making it much more beautiful to take pictures. At that time, there were hardly any tourists in the area, so I was free to walk around, listen to the birds, and enjoy the quiet here.

Around 9 o’clock, the crowds began to pour in more, and the bustling voices and laughter made the atmosphere change completely. If you want to experience the solemnity and peace of Minh Mang Tomb fully, early morning is definitely the best choice.
#3. Choose modest and weather-appropriate clothing
Before going, I researched and was advised to wear polite clothing when visiting the tombs in Hue. In fact, when I arrived, I found this advice to be completely correct. Not only because of cultural and spiritual factors, but also because the weather in Hue is quite hot, if you wear a shirt that is too short or a skirt that is too thin, you will easily get sunburned and will not be comfortable when walking a lot.

I chose a cool short-sleeved shirt and long pants, which were easy to move around in and didn’t feel awkward when entering solemn spaces. Seeing some visitors wearing thin shirts or shorts, I felt they were quite out of place compared to the scene. Perhaps dressing a little more neatly would also make the experience more complete.
At the end of the visit to Minh Mang Tomb, I found this place very quiet and comfortable to walk around. The stone bridges, lakes, and large grounds made me feel more comfortable than many other tombs. The actual tomb of King Minh Mang was not accessible, but standing at a distance was enough to see its solemnity. For me, this was an experience worth spending a few hours exploring when coming to Hue.
